Matthew Kalenuik

I design and build software for healthcare organizations, nonprofits, businesses, and independent products across Canada.

With over 20 years in health and social services, plus formal training in machine learning and project management, I connect technical decisions to the people, processes, and constraints behind each project.

Based in British Columbia, I build custom web applications, native iOS products, AI integrations, and automation systems.

Father to a Deaf 10-year-old. Creative entrepreneur who is always learning—currently deep into works like The Scaling Era, Leopold Aschenbrenner's Situational Awareness, and Richard Hamming's The Art of Doing Science and Engineering.

Two Worlds, One Perspective

Healthcare & Social Services

I've spent over two decades working in addiction recovery and mental health services. As Director of Fund Development and Projects for a national registered charity, I've led initiatives that directly impact people's lives.

I serve on the boards of Sober Kids BC and the Deaf Children's Society of BC, and I've been organizing contemporary education conferences since 2017—bringing addiction recovery science to professionals across the country.

That experience keeps end users, privacy, and operational realities at the center of every system I build.

Technology & Development

My technical work spans full-stack development, native iOS, machine learning, and automation. I completed Stanford's Machine Learning Specialization, covering supervised learning, neural networks, and reinforcement learning.

I build web applications with React, Node.js, and PostgreSQL; native iOS apps with Swift and SwiftUI; and AI integrations using models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Grainveil brings those product, imaging, and on-device ML disciplines together in a camera shipped on the App Store.

My work ranges from healthcare platforms and enterprise systems to consumer products, with a focus on improving how people make decisions, deliver services, and complete their work.
