Matthew Kalenuik
Software developer, AI specialist, and healthcare professional. Patiently waiting for the singularity.
I build software that solves real problems for healthcare organizations, nonprofits, and businesses across Canada.
With over 20 years in the health and social services sector combined with formal training in machine learning and project management, I bring a unique perspective to software development. I understand both the technical challenges and the human needs behind every project.
Based in British Columbia, I work with organizations that need more than off-the-shelf solutions—custom web applications, AI integrations, and automation systems that actually work in the real world.
Two Worlds, One Perspective
Healthcare & Social Services
I've spent over two decades working in addiction recovery and mental health services. As Director of Fund Development and Projects at Last Door Recovery Centre, I've led initiatives that directly impact people's lives.
I serve on the boards of Sober Kids BC and the Deaf Children's Society of BC, and I've been organizing the Recovery Capital Conference of Canada since 2017—bringing contemporary addiction recovery science to professionals across the country.
This work taught me that technology should serve people, not the other way around. Every system I build is designed with the end user in mind.
Technology & Development
My technical journey started with curiosity and evolved into expertise. I completed Stanford's Machine Learning Specialization, covering supervised learning, neural networks, and reinforcement learning—the foundations that power modern AI.
I build full-stack web applications using React, Node.js, and PostgreSQL. I integrate AI APIs from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. I create workflow automations that save organizations hundreds of hours.
The CEU learning management system I built for Last Door now delivers 87 courses to healthcare workers across Canada. That's the kind of impact I aim for with every project.
